The Attorney General for England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the Rt Hon Baroness Scotland of Asthal PC QC, has been confirmed as the keynote speaker at the Annual General Meeting of the Academy to be held in conjunction with the Canadian Chapter Meeting in Vancouver from Wednesday 2 September 2009 to Sunday 6 September 2009.
Prior to her elevation to the House of Lords in 1997, Baroness Scotland practised at the Family Law Bar, making legal history as the youngest and first black woman to be appointed as Queen's Counsel. She was raised to the Privy Council in 2001 and, on assuming her present position in 2007, became the first woman to fill the post of Attorney General since its inception in 1315.
All Fellows that have not already registered for the meeting are urged to do so as soon as possible. Late registrants may not be able to take part in various activities as numbers have to be finalised well in advance of the conference dates.
