USA & Canadian Chapter Meeting 2012
Event runs Wednesday 13th June 2012 to Sunday 17th June 2012
Minneapolis, Minnesota
We have arranged this year’s USA Chapter annual meeting to afford you maximum opportunity to experience the heartland of America and all it offers. You will have options every day and evening for entertainment, enjoying the extraordinary parks & recreation and world class shopping.
National Geographic named Minneapolis as one of the top ten places in the world to visit during the summer.
Minneapolis is the City of Lakes and with its sister city, Saint Paul, there are 90,000 miles of shoreline, 929 metro area lakes and many parks and green spaces. Minneapolis’ Chain of Lakes is connected by several of the city’s winding paths. Click here for a map of lakes and parks. When you have as many lakes as we do, there’s no end to the ways to play outside.

Minneapolis is where Mary Tyler Moore tossed her hat in the air celebrating her independence, and you can see the sculpture on Nicollet Mall, recently named one of the best shopping streets in America by U.S. News and World Report. Speaking of shopping, after you visit the Nicollet Mall it is just a short trip on our Light Rail Transit to the Mall of America, – you will want to shop there since there is no sales tax on clothing or shoes in Minnesota. The Mall of America is the nation’s largest retail and entertainment complex. It is home to more than 520 world-class shops and nearly 50 restaurants; Nickelodeon Universe®, the nation’s largest indoor family amusement park; SEA LIFE Minnesota Aquarium, a 1.2 million gallon walk-through aquarium; Moose Mountain Adventure Golf; Theatres at the Mall of America®, a 14-screen movie theater.
Minneapolis is a city that bikes, recently rated as the best city in the U.S. for biking, with 127 miles of bikeways throughout the city. Nice Ride is a non-profit organization with bike rental stations around the metropolitan area. For a nominal fee you can rent a bike to do your sightseeing! Or try a Segway tour for five miles around Minneapolis through the Mill District. (General Mills and Pillsbury were started in Minneapolis along the Mississippi River.)
History buffs will want to visit Saint Paul’s historic Fort Snelling. Tour the grounds and talk to experts about how living in the fort shaped the state we know today. Or make a visit to the Minnesota History Center in Saint Paul and walk down Summit Avenue – the nation’s longest stretch of restored Victorian homes. While there, check out the Minnesota State Capitol or the Cathedral of Saint Paul to step back in time through their architecture.
What if it rains? Never fear we have eight miles of climate controlled skyways linking 69 blocks of the downtown area including our meeting hotel. Click here for a map of the skyway system.
Thursday evening we have arranged a private box for attendees at the new Minnesota Twins Stadium – Target Field – where the Twins will play the Philadelphia Phillies. Tickets for this exclusive suite have already been claimed, however we are working to arrange for a second suite just steps down along the third base line. However, if you prefer music, you will want to join us at the Minnesota Orchestra Hall that same evening with Osmo Vänskä in one of the last performances of the season.
Only New York City offers more theatre per capita than Minneapolis with more than 30 stages ranging from the world renowned Guthrie Theatre, to the Penumbra where Pulitzer prize winner August Wilson’s plays were first staged.
Friday evening you will have the opportunity to attend a performance at the Guthrie of The Amen Corner or Roman Holiday or see the acclaimed Afro Beat musical Fela!, at the Ordway in our sister city of Saint Paul.
Finally, we will end the meeting with dinner at the historic Minneapolis Woman’s Club and an exclusive performance by international singer Tony Sandler.
Conference Hotel – The Graves 601 Hotel
The conference will be held at Graves 601 Hotel (www.graves601hotel.com) in downtown Minneapolis, just one block from the new Target Field. Located on 1st Ave, the Graves is at the center of it all – blocks from theaters, live music and entertainment venues and a wide range of dining options.
